Coláiste Oiriall again conceded victory in the Basketball Ireland under 16B Girls’ Schools Cup final.in Tallaght Basketball Arena on Monday to Cross and Passion, Killcullen. Ba í Gillian Wheeler an difear idir an dá fhoireann sa chéad cheathrú agus scóráil sí naoi bpointe amach as 13 don fhoireann sa cheathrú sin.

Miah Ryan with Lara O Mairtin 23/1/2017Caoimhe Nic An Bhaird and Aisling Ní Ghallchóir of Colaiste Oiriall found their feet in the second quarter though and it was well and truly game on for what would prove to be a fantastic showcase of schools basketball. The action was end-to-end throughout the second, with the teams going in at the break just three points apart, 18-21. Bhí beirt imreoir de chuid Oiriall a raibh trioblóid feallanna ach sa chéad leath, rud a d’fhág gurb eigean dóibh bheith iontach cúramach sa dara leath.

Gemma Nic Seáin and Lara O Mairtin were the standout stars for the Monaghan side throughout the second half, working hard under the boards to help Caoimhe Nic an Bhaird and Aisling Ní Ghallchóir and with the Arena’s roof almost lifted off with supporters’ cheers, the game remained neck-in-neck with both sides showing off their talent from around the key. D’fhéadfadh an bua a bheith ag Coláiste Oiriall go furasta ach an t-ádh a bheith orthu ag aimsiú cise’an.

Miah Ryan with Lara O Mairtin and Emily Ni Bhraonain 23/1/2017Despite a spurt from Kilcullen in the third, Colaiste Oiriall were not giving up, and threw everything at them in the last quarter. The Oiriall girls reduced to deficit to four with four minutes to go. Miah Ryan finished off fast breaks in style and wove her way around the defence to find the basket to give her team a 45-56 win in the end after a truly thrilling final. The work rate and performance of Coláiste Oiriall is not reflected in this 11 point defeat. Díoma don fhoireann agus dioma don Mhúinteoir Annette – ocht bhfoireann éagsúil ag leibhéal leathchraobhacha Éireann ag Annette le roinnt blianta ach doiligh an phríomhghradam a sciobadh ach an éacht déanta ag Oiriall – an scoil is lú sa tír atá ag iomaíocht ag leibhÉAl B.

Ba í Caoimhe Nic an Bhaird an scórálaí ab airde le 16 phointe, scóráil Aisling Ní Ghallchóir 11 phointe, Lara Ó Máirtín 8 bpointe, Geamma Nic Seáin 6 phointe agus Emily Ní Bhraonáin agus Helen Nic Criostail dhá phointe an duine.
