Coláiste Oiriall defeated St. Pius, Magherafelt by 11 points to win the Ladies football Under 16B Schools Ulster final in a windswept Garvaghy on Friday.

St. Pius X College scored a point immediately after the throw-in but Coláiste Oiriall soon replied with a point from Leah Ní Chuinneagáin. St. Pius were soon in the ascendancy, scoring a goal and a point in quick succession as Coláiste Oiriall struggled at midfield against the wind. Team captain, Caoimhe Nic an Bhaird, was soon to finish the ball low and hard to the left side of the keeper after receiving a pinpoint pass from the deadly accurate Chloe Nic Giolla Bhríde.

Scóráil All-Star s’againne, Morgan Nic Cionna dhá phointe agus scóráil Chloe Nic Giolla Bhríde pointe galánta roimh leatham i ndiaidh dí pas cruinn a fháil ó Aisling Ní Ghallchóir. D’aimsigh St. Pius cúl díreach roimh leatham tar éis sciob sceab sa chearnóg.

3 Bronnadh ar MiaBhí buntáiste na gaoithe le hOiriall sa dara leath agus tháinig siad chun páirce agus cíocras orthu. Scóráil Morgan Nic Cionna dhá phointe go gairid i ndiaidh a chéile agus d’ainneoin na dianmharcála a rinneadh uirthi d’aimsigh sí Caoimhe Nic an Bhaird sa spás agus fuair sise cúl.

Coláiste Oiriall went defensive and dropped a player back, thus creating extra space in the forwards. Scóráil Caoimhe Nic an Bhaird agus Morgan Nic Cionna an chéad trí phointe eile. Mia Ní Raghallaigh won the ball repeatedly on the half back line and delivered great supply into the forwards resulting in Morgan Nic Cionna scoring another goal and a point. This performance from Mia ensured her the coveted Laoch na hImeartha (Player of the Match) award.

A lapse in concentration allowed St. Pius their only score of the half with a well taken goal when the Oiriall defence could do nothing but look on. Oiriall management made some tactical substitutions resulting in Leah Ní Chuinneagáin, Caoimhe Ní Mhaolchallan and Alanna Ní Chorragáin all scoring points. Emily Ní Bhraonáin and Aimee Ní Dhufaigh were stalwarts in defence.
