The cream of Ulster schools’ footballers, including ColBrendan-Coliaste-Oiriall-3aáiste Oiriall’s Morgan Nic Cionna, gathered in Kelly’s Inn, Garvaghy on Friday evening last for the presentation of the Ulster Post Primary Gaelic Football All Star Awards 2017. Players representing schools from all nine Ulster counties received awards along with a jersey as the 31 player squad celebrated their well-deserved victory in the All-Ireland Inter Provincial Schools tournament a few weeks ago. 180 had earlier been selected by their schools to attend the initial trials.

Brendan-Coliaste-Oiriall-5Brendan-Coliaste-Oiriall-7Gerry Doherty, Secretary, Ulster LGFA, introduced each of the players in turn. As their pictures appeared on the big screen, Gerry read their citations and each of them received their awards. Morgan is only Coláiste Oiriall’s second Ulster Schools’ Football All-Star award recipient, following in the footsteps of Ellen Ní Bhriain two years ago. Recognition is due to Morgan’s school coaches – present and past – Múinteoirí Orla Ní Riada, Chloe Bhreathnach and Annette Ní Thuathail.

He was joined on stage by Ciaran Woods, representing the sponsors, theGAAstore.com. Morgan Nic Cionna has two Schools’ Under 16 Ulster medals and two Schools’ Under 20 Ulster medals and is looking forward to playing St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Rochfordbridge in Mullahoran on 13th March and Mercy Secondary School, Ballymahon on 20th March in the Under 20 and Under 16 All-Ireland semi-finals respectively.
