D’fhág cluiche na hAoine go mbeidh muid ag glacadh páirt i gCraobh na hÉireann den chomórtas iomraiteach seo don chéad uair ariamh. Tá gach seans go raibh imreoirí aonaracha níos fearr ag Wilsons Hospital ach bhí foireann níos fearr ag Oiriall.

The final score on Friday was 74-66. Things looked bleak until after halftime. At the end of the first quarter we trailed by 21-17 and at half time we trailed by 32-25. We were ahead by 44-39 at the end of the third quarter and it was all square at 58 each at fulltime. We were superior in overtime had 8 points to spare after the five minutes overtime period.

Bhí muid ar gcúl don chuid is mó den chluiche agus ach amháin botún beag bídeach a rinneadh bheadh an bua againn gan am breise. Chríocdhnaigh an cluiche cothrom 58-58. Bhí an lámh in uachtar againn in am breise agus d’imir siad go bríomhar go dtí an deireadh agus 8 bpointe le sparáil acu. Ba í Jack Ó Daighre Laoch na hImeartha do Choláiste Oiriall agus é ar an scórálaí ab airde le os cionn fiche pointe – ní don chéad uair an seasúr seo.

No surprise to report that Jack Ó Daighre was top scorer with 21 points despite being fouled out in the final quarter. Cian Mac Giolla Chomhail scored 18 points while Dylan Mac Cionna scored 15 points. Jamie Mac Murchaidh did fantastic defensive work. A number of Wilsons Hospital’s players were fouled out including their captain. Coláiste Oiriall had already played Castleknock College and Grange Community School in the Cup competition. Wilsons Hospital may have had better individual players but Coláiste Oiriall had a much better team of players. Congratulations to the boys and to the mentors, Múinteoir Deirdre and Múinteoir Annette.

Comhghairdeas leis na gasúraí uilig agus guíonn muid gach rath orthu sa chraobh i dTamhlacht ar an Mháirt, 26 Eanáir ar 3.00 pm. Throid siad go crua sa chomórtas seo cheana ach tchifidh muid an troid chéanna iontu sa chraobh gan amhras. Idir an dá linn imreoidh an baicle céanna buachaillí in eadán scoil as Cill Mhantain ar an Domhnach i dturnaimint cáiliteh ceathrú craobh na hÉireann sa léig.

On Sunday week the Oiriall boys will play in the Basketball Ireland League All-Ireland quarter final play-offs in Avondale Community College, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow after defeating a plethora of local teams including De La Salle, Dundalk in the North East League final.
