Coláiste Oiriall TY Formula One team, Roicéidí Oiriall travel to the Eastern Finals of the Formula One in Schools Technology Competition in the Citywest Hotel to go head-to-head, testing the speed and engineering quality of our model F1 racer on the 20-metre lane.
F1 in Schools is a global multi-disciplinary competition that challenges secondary school students to design, build and race miniature compressed-air powered balsa wood Formula One cars. The competition inspires students to use IT to learn about physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture, branding, graphics, sponsorship, marketing, leadership, teamwork, media skills and financial strategy, and apply them in a practical, imaginative and competitive way.
The Coláiste Oiriall team members are Tara Nic Giolla Sheanáin, Lauren Ní Chearáin, Ethan Ó Maoláin, Gearóid Ó Luachráin agus Kylie Ó Ciara and their mentor, Múinteoir Micheál Ó Suilleabháin assigned the following roles to the team members: team manager, resources manager, manufacturing engineer, design engineer and graphic designer.

Is comórtas teicneolaíochta é F1 in Schools a chuireann ar chumas micléinn dara leibhéal plé le hinnealtóireacht agus déantúsaíocht. Ní amháin go ndéantar moltóireacht ar luas an chairr ach tugtar marcanna fosta don innealtóireacht, scileanna leis na meáin, scileanna ó bhéal, dearadh grafaicí agus ag plé le hurraíocht. Is comórtas domhnada é agus eagraíonn Cumann Ríomhaireachta na hÉireann é anseo in Éirinn.
Nuair a bhí na fillteáin bogearraí CAD réidh ag Roicéidí Oiriall chuir siad síos go hOllscoil Luimní iad, áit a d’aistrigh siadsan an dearadh isteach ina charr ceart adhmaid. Ceapadh UL mar chomhpháirtí Choláiste Oiriall sa tionscnamh agus tá an scoil iontach buíoch díbh.
A number of third-level colleges and universities around Ireland have made their facilities available to teams competing in F1 in Schools. Coláiste Oiriall was matched with University of Limerick. When Coláiste Oiriall’s Roicéidí Oiriall finalised the design specifications of its F1 racer using CAD/CAM programmes, we passed the software files to UL. Using sophisticated CNC systems, they transformed our design into actual 3D balsa wood racers which they then returned to the school for final finishing and decoration.
Is é cuspóir an chomórtais ná próifíl na teicneolaíochta agus na heolaíochta ar ardú sna hairbhunscoileanna agus timpeallacht thaithneamhach foghlama a chruthú chun cuidiú le micléinn eolas a fháil ar shlíthe beatha sna hearnálacha seo. Guíonn muid ádh mór ar Roicéidí Oiriall sa Chraobh Reigiúnda in Ostán an Citywest inniu.
