As the curtain comes down on the 1916 Commemoration nationally Coláiste Oiriall organised its final event to mark the occasion last Thursday when Noel Ó Gallchóir from Gaoth Dobhair, Donegal Gaeltacht performed his one man show entitled ‘Ó Pheann an Phiarsaigh’ based on the writings of Padraig Mac Piarais.
Múinteoir Diarmuid MacCionna welcomes Noel Ó Gallchóir to Coláiste Oiriall minutes before the opening of the show.
All TY, 5th and 6th year students attended and all agreed that it was an excellent production and that it contributed to their insight of Pearse.
Is léiriú pearsanta é an dráma ar shaothar an Phiarsaigh. Déantar ceiliúradh agus comóradh air mar fhile, mar ghearrscéalaí, mar dhrámadóir mar oideachasóir, mar réabhlóidí agus mar fhear mórchroíoch a rinne saothar ollmhór ar son na teanga agus ar son an chultúir, agus a thug a bheatha ar son a thíre.
In this stirring representation of the life and works of one of Ireland’s most famous and revered sons, the best of Pádraig Mac Piarais creative writings are revived and illustrated masterfully.
Noel Ó Gallchóir researched, wrote, directed and performed the play. He is a native of Gaoth Dobhair in the Donegal Gaeltacht. He has dedicated his life to Irish-language education and to the promotion of the Irish language and its culture. He was Principal in Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair from 1998 until 2015. Tá a shaol caite ag Noel Gallchóir ag plé leis an oideachas trí Ghaeilge agus le cur chun cinn na teanga agus an chultúir.
Coláiste Oiriall was delighted to host the event in the Garage Theatre and it was a fitting end for the school’s year of commemoration and the History students particularly appreciated the fine writing and production values of the show.
