Everybody in Coláiste Oiriall is delighted with our move across town to our new home on the Monaghan Education Campus in the townland of Knockaconny on the Armagh Road. Last Monday, 18th February was our first day in our new home – unbelievable.

Coupled with the new build for Gaelscoil Ultain, this campus represents the greatest stimulus for the promotion of the Irish language and Irish medium education ever in Co. Monaghan. Is é an dul chun cinn is mó ariamh a tharla don teanga Gaeilge sa chontae gan amhras.

Our spanking new school has the best facilities that money can buy in a three storey building.  Nearby stands a full size Sports Hall incorporating two fitness suites and the new Garage Theatre is also literally on our doorstep. Our first date in the new theatre will be Monday, 11th March for our Ceolchoirm Fhéile Pádraig (St. Patrick’s Festival concert). Tabharfaidh an foirgneamh nua ardú meanma do gach duine idir dhaltaí agus mhúinteoirí.

The accommodation for Coláiste Oriall is arranged on three floors and the total area of the building is 4,000 m2. In addition to the building accommodation there are four ball courts which, when joined together, make up the equivalent of a full size pitch. We also have a full size prunty pitch with netting surround. Halla Spóirt Barry McGuigan is essentially a double height space facing the main road with changing facilities and fitness rooms on the north east side of the building.

The following facilities are available in the Coláiste Oiriall: two science laboratories, two Computing rooms, Home Economics room, Art room, Music room, Woodwork room, Engineering room, Graphics room, general classrooms, pastoral offices, chaplain’s office, meeting room, library, demonstration room, Career Guidance room and office, Learning Support classroom and office, prayer room, book store, First Aid room, general office, GPA area and canteen.  Beidh muid millte! Níl muid cleachtaithe le galántacht nó fairsingeacht nó scotháiseanna ach beidh seo uilig againn feasta.

Pic 3 - CopyColáiste Oiriall is indebted to thank Beech Hill College for sharing their facilities with us for the past 8 ½ years – canteen, woodwork room, Sports Hall and playground. We take this opportunity to thank the present Principal, Martha Williamson and her two immediate predecessors, John Heaphey and Frank McManus, for accepting us on their campus.

Everybody in Coláiste Oiriall wishes to record our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Martin O’Brien, CEO, Co. Monaghan VEC who dreamt the dream and realised it in no time. We shared that dream and now we are about to derive full benefits from its execution. Mr. O’Brien’s enthusiasm, work rate and meticulous approach to the project continue unabated. Togha fir!
