Many congratulations to the two senior pop groups who won through to the All-Ireland finals of the Scléip talent competition after being successful in the regional heat, held in Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin, Derry last week. They now go on to the national finals which will be held in Axis Theatre, Ballymun on Saturday. In all sixteen students from Coláiste Oiriall took part in the Ulster heat.

The two successful groups took part in the Modern Music – Groups section (Ceol Nua-Aimseartha – Grúpaí) while two further competitors took part in the parallel individual section – the latter being unlucky not to progress. Contemporary pop material was used but translated into Irish. All the Coláiste Oiriall competitors were tutored by music teacher, Múinteoir Nuala.

A fifth year group sang a combination of “Hé Hó” and “I Will Follow You” (Leanfaidh Mé Tú) while the fourth year group sang “Dancing in the Moonlight” (Ag Damhsa le Solas na Gealaí) – Irish language versions of course! Aimee Ní Ghallchóir sang “Clown” (Fear Grinn) and accompanied herself on piano while a third year student, Charlotte Ní hAgáin sang “Read All About It” (Léigh deireadh fá dtaobh de).
