Four fifth Year students from Coláiste Oiriall took part in “Abair”, the Gael-Linn sponsored Irish language Public Speaking competition held in Beech Hill College on Tuesday. They were Ciara Ní Mhathúna, Aindriú Mac Siacais, Seimhín Ní Dhonnghaile and Rachel Ní Shuilleabháin.

Ciara spoke about the influence celebrities and superstars on our everyday life  while Rachel spoke about women’s rights.  Sometimes serious, sometimes jovial, the four students were always entertaining. The speakers’ humorous style and clear delivery impressed the adjudicators. Their mentor was Múinteoir Olivia Nic Canainn.

Loinnir Ní Dhonnghaile won first place speaking about life in bygone times and Aindriú Mac Siacais was second speaking about the Irish language in the senior section that had 18 competitors in total. They now go through to the Ulster Final. Other participating schools were St Claire’s College, Ballyjamesduff, Beech Hill College, Monaghan, St Patrick’s Acadamy, Dungannon, St Michael’s College, Enniskillen and Mount Lourdes, Enniskillen. Déanann muid comhghairdeas le Loinnir agus le hAindriú agus leis an bheirt iomaitheoir eile ón scoil agus tá muid ag súil leis go mbeidh an lá leo i gCraobh Uladh.
