Best wishes to the fourteen students from Coláiste Oiriall who, are travelling to the RDS on Wednesday to take part in the Young Scientist competition. Five projects from the school were accepted from the preliminary stages of the competition. The students would like to thank their teachers, Múinteoir Roisin Uí Choinn and Múinteoir Jane Nic Phaidin.

Coláiste Oiriall will host the Girls under 16 All-Ireland Quarter Finals Play-Offs in the Phoenix Centre, Carrickmacross this Sunday. As well as Coláiste Oiriall, St. Tiernan’s, Crossmolina, Cross and Passion, Kilcullen and Aquinas Grammar School, Belfast will take part.

Four fifth Year students from Coláiste Oiriall took part in “Abair”, the Gael-Linn sponsored Irish language Public Speaking competition held in Beech Hill College on Tuesday. They were Ciara Ní Mhathúna, Aindriú Mac Siacais, Seimhín Ní Dhonnghaile and Rachel Ní Shuilleabháin.

 Tá daltaí Choláiste Oiriall breá gnoitheach faoi láthair ag gabháil do spórt idir luthchleasaíocht, cispheil agus peil.  Sarah Nic Fhailigh, Amy Ní hAmaill, Deirdre Nic Canna and Jessica Ní Dhruacháin will take part in the Ulster Athletics Association Cross Country Championships in Mallusk tomorrow, having acquitted themselves extremely well in the pool stages.

Ist Year and 2nd Year Girls Basketball teams from Coláiste Oiriall are in the Phoenix Centre, Carrickmacross on Thursday participating in the Basketball Ireland North East League Finals. The girls had a great run into the finals.

Six Monaghan girls, including Arlene Ní Ghiolla Chomhail – a second year student in Coláiste Oiriall, clinched third place in the Celtic Cup recently in the University of Ulster, Jordanstown. Arlene formed part of a trio with Diane Deery and Aisling McGuirk and along with another trio of Daisy Monaghan, Meave Monaghan and Shannon Hughes represented Ireland in the international gymnastics competition.

Coláiste Oiriall First Year Girls’ basketball team will take part in the All-Ireland Basketball C play-offs in the Phoenix Centre in Carrickmacross on Thursday. They have already defeated Loreto College, Navan in the North East League final.

Chuaigh daltaí nua-chláraithe Choláiste Oiriall go Gaeltacht Rann na Feirste an deireadh seachtaine seo chuaigh thart agus chaith siad am sultmhar i measc bhunadh na háite agus d’fhreastail siad ar réimse leathan imeachtaí.  Fuair siad seans a gcuid Gaeilge a chleachtadh i suíomh nadúrtha na Gaeltachta.

This Thursday Coláiste Oiriall Girls Under 16 Gaelic Football team travel to Beragh in Co. Tyrone to play Thornhill College, Derry in the Ulster Final. They have already convincingly defeated Castleblayney College, Largy College, Inver College, Beech Hill College, Bailieborough Community School, Breffni College, Cavan and Dromore High School, Tyrone on their way to the final.

Coláiste Oiriall has just announced the winners of the Gaeltacht and Stagewise Drama scholarhships after expressions of interest submitted by students.

The following are the results of this year’s Peann agus Pár Literary Competition held in Coláiste Oiriall since Easter. The adjudicators complimented the entrants in all sections, believing the standard to be very high. Thanks is extended to the English and Irish teachers who co-ordinated the competitions.

Coláiste Oiriall had a convincing victory in the Under 14 Ulster final of Ladies Gaelic Football competition at a windswept Smitboro on Monday against Largy College. Daithí MacGiolla Bhríde received the ultimate accolade at the Coláiste Oiriall Awards’ Ceremony which was held in the Hillgrove Hotel recently. He received the much coveted Student of the Year award. Daithí is son of Ian and Sandra McBride, Ballinode. He received his primary school education in Gaelscoil Ultain.
