Coláiste Oiriall had a very successful day at the VEC Cross Country Championships in Black Island, Castleblayney. Four of our five teams were medal recipients. The Junior Girls’ team scooped first place with seven runners finishing in the top ten places, namely Amy Ní hAmaill (1st), Emer Ní Loingigh (4th), Ellen Ní Bhriain (5th), Dervla Fowler (6th), Francis Ní Chonghaile Nic Aodha (8th), Hannah Ní Chleircín (9th) and Lianne Nic an Bhaird (10th).

D’éirigh thar barr leis an cheolchoirm a d’eagraigh Coláiste Oiriall in Óstán an Westenra ar an 14 Márta – an chéad cheolchoirm a reáchtáil an scoil ariamh. Ba chuid de cheiliúradh Sheachtain na Gaeilge a bhí ann.

Arrangements have been announced for the finals of the Basketball Ireland sponsored North East League Regional Finals in which three teams from Coláiste Oiriall will take part.  The finals will take place in the Phoenix Centre, Carrickmacross over a two day period but all of Coláiste Oiriall’s games will be played next Thursday, 30th March.

Bhuaigh Coláiste Oiriall ar Choláiste Learga agus ar Scoil Uí Mhuirí, Co. Lú chun craobhacha cispheile Reigiún an Oirthuaiscirt 1ú agus 2ú buachaillí a bhaint i gCarraig Mhachaire Rois ach chaill an fhoireann 2ú bliana caiíní in eadán fhoireann láidir Ó Ghairmscoil Achadh an Iúir, Co. an Chabháin.

Many congratulations to Áine Ní Fhlanagáin, a Fifth Year student in Coláiste Oiriall, who won the All-Ireland title in the Scléip National Talent Competition for post primary schools in the Axis Theatre, Ballymun on Saturday. Áine is a prominent member of Carrickmacross Comhaltas CeoltóirÍ Éireann.

The results of the Coláiste Oiriall “Peann agus Pár” Literary Competition have just been announced. The adjudicators wish to compliment all the entrants and particularly those who won or indeed were placed in the various categories. 125 entries were received in total.

Four second Year students in Coláiste Oiriall have been awarded Stagewise scholarships to attend a residential Performaning Arts Youth course in the King’s Hospital School in Palmerstown between Monday, 4th and Saturday, 9th July. The four lucky students are Orna Ní Fhlanagáin, Helen Ní Chionnaith, Dervla Fowler and Frances Ní Chonghaile NicAoidh. They will attend classes in acting, singing, dancing, comedy, improvisation and mime.

Chuaigh daltaí nuachláraithe Choláiste Oiriall go Gaeltacht Rann na Feirste an deireadh seachtaine seo agus chaith siad am sultmhar i measc bhunadh na háite agus d’fhreastail siad ar réimse leathan imeachtaí.  Fuair siad seans a gcuid Gaeilge a chleachtadh i suíomh nadúrtha na Gaeltachta.

Bhi ronnt imeachtai sultmhara ar siul ag daltai na hIdirbhliana le gairid chun deireadh dearfach a chur leis an bhliain. Transition Year students travelled to Dublin Castle recently and to the Croke Park museum, where they also got a tour of the stadium. They were accompanied by Múinteoir Gráinne.

Máire Nic Thaidhg received the ultimate accolade at the Coláiste Oiriall Awards’ Ceremony which was held in the Hillgrove Hotel last week. She received the much coveted Student of the Year award.

Comhghairdeas le hAmy Ní hAmaill, dalta chéad bhliana i gColáiste Oiriall a bhuaigh an dara háit sa rása 1,500m do chailíní sóisearacha i gCraobh Lúthchleasaíochta Scoileanna na hÉireann sa Tulach Mhór. Tá an comórtas náisiúnta seo mar dheireadh de bhliain ar dóigh a bhí ag Amy.

Cuireann Coláiste Oiriall fearadh na fáilte roimh dhaltaí nua na chéad bhliana. Tá 76 acu uilig ann ó 17 bunscoil éagsúil ar fud an chontae. Ar ndóighe bhuail siad le chéile cheana féin nuair chaith siad deireadh seachtaine le chéile i nGaeltacht Rann na Feirste i mí na Bealtaine.

Síníodh na conarthaí le comhlacht tógála John Sisk le gairid chun Campas nua Oideachais Mhuineacháin a thógáil ar bhóthar Ard Mhacha, áit a mbíodh Beairic an Airm. Ar ndóighe tá Coláiste Oiriall mar chroílár an champais nua. Is fiú idir €35 milliún agus €45 milliún ina iomlán an tionscnamh seo nuair a chuirtear gach rud sa chuntas.

Beidh Coláiste Oiriall ag réachtáil turas deireadh seachtaine chuig cluiche Príomhroinne in Old Trafford agus roinnt imeachtaí eile i gceantar Manchain na Sasana ag deireadh mhí na Samhna.

Déanann Coláiste Oiriall comhghairdeas leis na daltaí 6 bliana uilig a fuair a gcuid torthaí Ardteiste le gairid. Fuair roinnt acu 500 pointe nó thairis agus beidh siad gan mhoill ag tabhairt aghaidh ar oideachas tríú leibhéal.

The fixtures for the Monaghan VEC Gaelic Football Competition had been announced last week. Colaiste Oiriall was defeated by one point in their opening match today against Castleblayney College. Coláiste Oiriall will play their home matches in Gavan Duffy Park this year. There are Under 14 and Under 16 13 aside competitions. First named team plays at home:

Déanann Coláiste Oiriall comhghairdeas le dalta chéad bhliana, Eve Ní Mhaiclín ar éirigh léi an chéad áit a bhaint amach i gComórtas Seóléimní Scoileanna san in Iúir Chinn Trá le gairid.

Coláiste Oiriall held its second annual Sports Day in Gavan Duffy Park recently.

Forty five students from Coláiste Oiriall have just returned from completing the adventure journey section of their Gaisce award. Students from Rang Fionnuala left school at lunchtime Friday accompanied by three teachers for Bragan.
