Coláiste Oiriall had a very successful day at the VEC Cross Country Championships in Black Island, Castleblayney. Four of our five teams were medal recipients. The Junior Girls’ team scooped first place with seven runners finishing in the top ten places, namely Amy Ní hAmaill (1st), Emer Ní Loingigh (4th), Ellen Ní Bhriain (5th), Dervla Fowler (6th), Francis Ní Chonghaile Nic Aodha (8th), Hannah Ní Chleircín (9th) and Lianne Nic an Bhaird (10th).

The Intermediate Girls also scooped a convincing first place with four athletes finishing in the top ten: Jessica Ní Dhruacháin (1st), Deirdre Nic Canna (2nd), Fionnuala Ní Chathmhaoil (4th), Sarah Nic Fhailigh (8th), Aoife Ní Chorragáin (12th) and Tara Ní Raghallaigh (13ú).

Coláiste Oiriall also had two Boys’ teams placed. The Minor Boys received bronze as did the Junior Boys. Individual performances from Francis Ó hAodha and Calvin Carlisle in 4th and 6th places respectively helped the Minor team while Aindriú de Buitléir led the field for the Junior Boys’ clinching 5th places. The Junior Boys’ had to run a challenging two mile race.

Other team representatives were: Cian Ó Conraoi, Jack Ó Daighre, Dylan MacCionna, Darragh Ó Tuathail, Cian Mac Giolla Chomhail and Tiarnach MacUaid (Minor Boys’);  Pilib Ó Conaill, Caolan Mac Cionnaith, Lochrann Ó Donnghaile, Cillian Ó Murchú, Enda Mac Giolla Eoin, Ruairí Ó Muineach agus Maitiú Mac Uaid. The Minor Girls’ team consisted of Amy Ní hAmaill, Carla Ní Dhochartaigh, Charlotte Ní Ghiolla Chomhaill, Carol Nic Gib, Laoise Ní Laoire agus Aoife Ní Roideáin. Comhghairdeas libh uilig.
