Dhá Dhuais do Choláiste Oiriall ag Eolaí Óg na Bliana

One of three Coláiste Oiriall projects clinched second place in the Social and Behavioural Sciences Junior Section of the BT Young Scientist in the RDS while a second project got the Marie Keating Foundation Award for best project dealing with cancer research. Mary Coughlan, Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Caitriona Ruane, MLA and Minister of Education in N. Ireland were present at the Awards’ Ceremony. Frances in Poetry Aloud Finals

Congratulations to Frances Ní Chonghaile Nic Aoidh who reached the final of the Poetry Aloud Competition in the National Library in Dublin. Frances was one of three students who had won through the local round in the Four Seasons Hotel in November and who also won through the semi-final earlier in the day. The students were coached by Múinteoir Gráinne. Frances spoke “Alligator Girls” by W.S. Daltaí Dara Bliana ag díospóireacht

The school Junior Debating of Josh Mac Pilib, Aindriú de Buitléir, Frances Ní Chonghaile Nic Aoidh agus Ellen Ní Bhriain defeated opposition from Rath Cairn, Co. na Mí and Bun Crannacha, Co. Dhún na nGall, proposing the motion “go bhfuil daoine óga ina sclabhaithe ag an idirlíon” (that young people are slaves to the internet) in Dundalk. The students had a further debate at home, in which they were defeated. They opposed the motion “is aoibhinn beatha an phinsinéara” (“a pensioner’s life is a delightful one”).
