Congratulations to Frances Ní Chonghaile Nic Aoidh who reached the final of the Poetry Aloud Competition in the National Library in Dublin. Frances was one of three students who had won through the local round in the Four Seasons Hotel in November and who also won through the semi-final earlier in the day. The school Junior Debating of Josh Mac Pilib, Aindriú de Buitléir, Frances Ní Chonghaile Nic Aoidh agus Ellen Ní Bhriain defeated opposition from Rath Cairn, Co. na Mí and Bun Crannacha, Co. Dhún na nGall, proposing the motion “go bhfuil daoine óga ina sclabhaithe ag an idirlíon” (that young people are slaves to the internet) in Dundalk. The students had a further debate at home, in which they were defeated. They opposed the motion “is aoibhinn beatha an phinsinéara” (“a pensioner’s life is a delightful one”).
