Big Knit In

Rang Grainne students in Coláiste Oiriall participated in the Innocent Smoothie sponsored Big Knit in aid of Action Ireland as part of their CSPE project. Innocent Smoothie hope to get 80,000 miniature hats knitted for their bottles and have pledged 25c per bottle to the charity. Ba í an Múinteoir Olivia a bhí i gceannas ar an tógra.

Scoil Nua agus Campas Nua i 2012

Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills Mary Coughlan T.D. visited Monaghan in early December to unveil plans and digital images for the new VEC Monaghan Education Campus. This campus on the site of the former Army barracks will comprise a 16 classroom primary school for Gaelscoil Ultain; a 400 pupil post-primary school for Colaiste Oiriall; the Monaghan Institute of Further Education; a shared sports hall; and a 300 seat capacity theatre/lecture facility to be the new home of the Garage Theatre as well as a number of sports areas. . . .

Boys’ Basketball teams book places in Regional Finals

The Under 19 and the Under 16 Boys’ Basketball teams face Scoil Uí Mhuirí in their respective finals of the North Eastern League organized by Basketball Ireland.

Ó mhí Mheán Fomhair ar aghaidh bhí dhá fhoireann in iomaíocht ó thaobh na buachaillí de – foireann sinsir agus foireann cadette. D’imir an fhoireann cadette in éadan Choláiste Learga, Scoil Uí Mhuirí, Dún Léire, an Scoil Gramadaí, Dún Dealgan agus Coláiste na hInse, Co na Mí. Sa chéad chluiche sa tsraith bhí Donnacha O Dulain iontach láidir ag cosaint agus sa dara cheathrú ghnóthaigh Turlough O Cleircín trí chiséain i ndiaidh a chéile. Chuir Oisín O Conraoi leis an méid seo le dhá chiseain ón líne saorchaithimh, rud a d’fhág na foirne cothrom ag leathama. Bhí an dara leath iontach fisiciúil agus chaill Coláiste Oiriall an cluiche.

Irish Subject Inspection

An Irish subject inspection was undertaken by cigire Oilibhear de Búrca on behalf of the Department of Education in April 2010.  The report was published in December 2010 and now appears on the Department’s website www.education.ie.

The report is very positive, stating that the planning work presented was of high quality, that the quality of teaching and learning was very high in all of the five lessons observed, that good use as made of ICT resources and that good attention was paid to assessment of all the language skills.  An tUas. de Burca also noted that the school had entered all the third year group for the optional oral examination in the Junior Certificate examination.
