Rang Grainne students in Coláiste Oiriall participated in the Innocent Smoothie sponsored Big Knit in aid of Action Ireland as part of their CSPE project. Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills Mary Coughlan T.D. visited Monaghan in early December to unveil plans and digital images for the new VEC Monaghan Education Campus. This campus on the site of the former Army barracks will comprise a 16 classroom primary school for Gaelscoil Ultain; a 400 pupil post-primary school for Colaiste Oiriall; the Monaghan Institute of Further Education; a shared sports hall; and a 300 seat capacity theatre/lecture facility to be the new home of the Garage Theatre as well as a number of sports areas. . . . → Tuilleadh eolais uait? The Under 19 and the Under 16 Boys’ Basketball teams face Scoil Uí Mhuirí in their respective finals of the North Eastern League organized by Basketball Ireland.

Gavin Duffy, entrepreneur from Dragons’ Den, presented bronze Gaisce Awards to the following twelve Coláiste Oiriall students at a ceremony in the Mullingar Park Hotel, Co. Westmeath in November. Áine Ní Fhlanagáin, Aoife Ní Chonraoí, Hannah Ní Longaigh, Conor Ó Maolfhabhaoil, Seán Ó Brogáin, Padraig Ó Muirí, Daithí Mac Giolla Bhríde, Una Ní Chorráin, Megan Ní Bheirn, Michelle Ní Mhuireagáin, Caoimhina Ní Shearraigh agus Sinead Ní Chorráin. The following ten students got excellent results in their Junior Certificate when the results were published in September, receiving 60As, 50Bs and 10c’s between them, all at higher level. onna Marie Ní Mhuireagáin was awarded a third level scholarship in recognition of her academic performance in the Leaving Certificate examination. The scholarship scheme, funded by the trustees of the J.P. McManus charitable foundation, provides significant financial assistance to top performing students throughout their undergraduate studies. Donna Marie is one of 10 recipients from the Republic of Ireland. The scholarship was presented by Mr. Peter Power, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs at a function in the Concert Hall in University of Limerick.
